Mark Blatch is the President of the Faringdon Chamber of Commerce .
I grew up in Grove and attended King Alfreds Grammar school in Wantage then joined the Royal Air Force in 1980. Following my aircrew training I spent most of my career at RAF Lyneham, living in Swindon. Opportunities to see the world were abundant in the early days and I seized them all. Tours in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan amongst other conflict areas were all part of a most enjoyable career. In 2000 I moved to Faringdon.
Frequenting a bar owned by an old school friend I made lots of new friends and soon felt part of the community.
Five years ago I reopened the bar with a little help from some friends. It is one of the few Bars in Faringdon still owned and managed by local people.
Three years ago I joined the Chamber of Commerce and took on a committee role two years ago. In my time in this position I have worked with the retail businesses in town and the Town team to progress the Reward card scheme and develop the Saturday markets.
As a member of the FollyFest committee I get great satisfaction working (interacting) with the various organisations that facilitate the event and get a buzz from the enthusiasm of communities help and support.
I am honoured to take on the role of President of Faringdon Chamber of Commerce. A newbie to Facebook and social media one thing I notice is there is a lot of ideas and enthusiasm from the people of Faringdon to support and develop our town. I am looking forward to working with the Town team to harness this enthusiasm and seek the resources to facilitate them.
